Inspired by True Events - Lov

So, officially, the film is completed. I only need to export it and test the sound through once.

I was telling a friend today there's a difference between saying
"I like this film" and "This is a good film".

You'll rarely (perhaps never) hear me say "this is a good film" about my own film. But sometimes you'll hear me say "I like this film" because sometimes I love the process of laughing with friends, cutting funny clips, or watching people fumble when they try to act.

So, I like this film. Lov, I mean.

It's by far the most personal movie I've done. To be honest, I'm still unsure of whether I should slip in a line at the beginning/end of the show saying that this film is "inspired by true events". I mean, everything fictional is in one way or another inspired by true events, otherwise there's nothing to fictionalize right.

But yes. Inspired by true events.

Lov is a collection of 6 short romance stories involving 'best' friends. Some end well, some don't. Some don't end. Some don't start.

Inspired by true events. Not saying that I've personally experienced everything that I've shot. Also not saying that I know people close to me who've experienced those stuff. Some yes. Some no.

Lov is indeed very close to my heart. More than anything else I've done. And I hope to be able to always do that. That being said, after this film, there'll be no love stories from me for a while. It's my favorite topic for sure, but sorta running out of steam with it already.

It's my last film to be made while I'm a student in Monash. I considered making a Psycho: KL, or a cheesy farewell party clip, or a Superman short, or a TaKau 2 as a personal farewell to a memorable 4 years of making dumb films for fun.

Then I thought about it.
Lov = Love story + Love story + Love story + Love story + Love story + Love story

Sounds exactly like what Meng Yoe would do. It's a fitting farewell, then, for me to talk about love.

And better yet, it stars old and new friends.

And yes, it's about love.

And here's a spoiler. You don't get to hear the line, "They say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that's true." Promise.

No time stopping sequence ala Captivation as well. No cheating.

Time doesn't stop in Lov.

see u at the premiere.

Oh, the nightmare of it all.

Oh, the nightmare of it all.

*

Like a falling star. A beautiful falling star. So radiant it cannot escape my sight. So graceful the curve of it's descent, like a swinging hook to my heart.

I do not dodge. What for, anyway?

It is a falling star. No matter how beautiful it is, no matter how much my soul is entranced by it, it is a falling star. And it will fall.

I might as well be there where it falls.
At least I will see lights. And more lights. And more lights.

I see lights until the death of me.

*

Oh, the nightmare of it all.

007

I'm not usually a James Bond fan. Wasn't born when Sean Connery made his mark (though I did watch some old ones and thought he was really good as Bond), watched some Roger Moore ones and thought it was boring, watched one Timothy Dalton one and thought it sucked.

Up till now, the only bond that was available to me and my my cinema visiting lifestyle was the Pierce Brosnan series. Goldeneye was boring at best. Tomorrow Never Dies is probably the best Bond movie I've seen. The World is not Enough was boring. Die Another Day was just bad (the title suck. Not cool).

So overall, no real good 007 experience.

But I like Daniel Craig. Seen some of his stuff, and I find that I'm one of the few people in the world who thinks that he just might pull it off as a good Bond.

Now the most common comment I've been hearing is that he's not suave enough. Or something like that.

Well.

That's why he's an actor right.
(and don't give me the some actors come with certain looks nonsense. Actors get stereotyped/typecast so often and too easily already. I think we should give them a break and have a little faith.)

10 Things About Singapore

here are 10 things that I noticed/happened during Singapore. Hopefully it summarizes everything.

1. I didn't get to see any giant flying squirrels. Didn't bother going.
2. I went SHOPPING. like EVERYDAY.
3. I was in my Clark Kent mode the entire time. Shu's friend, Christine, subbed in my absence when she wore an "S" T-Shirt out.
4. Christine was a very pleasant host.
5. Their Bugis Street (Petaling Street equivalent) looked like an artificial pirated center.
7. My cousin took time off her busy schedule to take me on a walkathon across half the city. Good seeing her though.
8. Malaysian customs/immigration suck. Didn't check anything.
9. Singaporean food is boring.
10. Their newspapers are more slanted than ours.
11. Watched Miami Vice - C
12. Wait. It's number 12.

If you guys want to see a flying squirrel. Proceed to the lower ground floor of Sunway College, near the labs, and you'll see a stuffed one there. They have bats, rats, birds and lizards as well.
Szen showed it to me the other day.

Tagged: The Music Shuffle

Susanna Khoo tagged me.
She's the only person whose tags I respond to so far.
Must be the dory in her

Oops. There, right there, I broke my month long fast from calling her names. I last this long.

Fat Susie.

ANyway. The tag:

*

The requirements:

1. Put your music player on shuffle
2. Press forward for each question

3. Use the song title as the answer to the question (but it seems you can insert lyrics from the song if you want lah... in addition to the title...so if it's suitable, just go ahead lah)

4. NO CHEATING!!!

* * *

1. How am I feeling today?

"CRASH! BOOM! BANG!" - Roxette
Cos everytime I seem to fall in love, Crash Boom Bang.

That's my real middle name, and that's always been the same.

Comment: My oh my. What a start to my tag.

2. Where will I get married?
A New Ending - Jerry Goldsmith From Star Trek: Nemesis

Comment: Mixed feelings about this one. Jerry Goldsmith is dead. A New Ending sounds like a morbid thing. BUT apart from the title Star Trek theme, the rest of the track is the Riker/Deanna Troi romance/wedding music. So... maybe it's the end of traditional weddings and I'm to get married in Space.

3. What is my best friend's theme song?

Theme from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Tan Dun/YoYoMa

Comment: Er.

4. What was high school like?

It Only Takes A Minute Girl - Take That

Comments: AIYOH I ONLY HAVE LIKE 3 TAKE THAT SONGS ON MY PLAYLIST AND 2 IS OUT. cis. i do not like boybands except for take thatokay. But OKAY what should I do with my life. I suppose based on the song, I should er. Fall in love. After all, it only takes a minute.

Considerment

So I woke up this morning. Pressed the snooze button like three to four times before getting out of bed. I showered. I brushed my teeth. Didn't shave. Went back into my room. Picked out a pair of slacks, my old blur shirt, put it on the edge of the bed. Then I jumped on my bed and accidentally fell asleep for another 10 minutes. Then my mom came knocking. I got up, got dressed. Tried to comb my hair. Picked up the phone to call Lynette to see if she's awake. She wasn't. So I woke her up. Then I went downstairs, read the papers while eating French Toast and drinking coffee that tasted like sugar water. Then I woke my niece up to watch Sesame Street. Drove out. Picked Lynette up. Arrived in campus. Bought real coffee. Chat with Lynette and Daniel over their breakfast a bit. Came upstairs here. Read some blogs. Checked email. Put on Hannibal CD with hopes that it'll inspire me to write thesis. Sarah Jane (the 'jane' distinction is necessary) walks in. She said hi. Dumped her stuff on the table and left for the other room. I'm bored. Hannibal is playing. Nice piano piece. What a boring morning. Thinking of a list of banned and unavailable items in Malaysia. Mirrormask is banned. Can you believe it? It's just about a mask that's a mirror. The Last Communist is banned. Schindler's List as well. And Saving Private Ryan. And Zoolander. And Amistad. And Munich. And. And. And. I had a dream last night about banned movies. I dreamt that X-Men was banned. The first movie. I dreamt that it was banned because it had too much sexual connotation. Wolverine sticking his middle claw out. Cyclops and his "all seeing" eye. Sabretooth and his carnal desires. Jean Grey with her seductiveness. Rogue and her raging hormones. Iceman and his cool. Ban ban ban ban ban ban. The rest of the night I dreamt of other more horrible things. I dreamt I screamed my head off in the middle of a meeting. Can't remember what meeting. But I was yelling away and I wish that doesn't happen in real life. I spoke to Susie last night on MSN. She wrote a love story. I like love stories. I'm a sucker for love stories. Oh speaking of which, I saw DOA: Dead or Alive yesterday morning. Lazy to write review so I'll review it here. Hot chicks. Stupid story. Awesome kickbutting. I want to make a kickbutt movie. I remember telling squiddy last night that people think it's difficult to make abstract artsy sort of films. I agree. But. But. But. I don't see anyone trying to make a kickbutt kungfu action badda bing badda bam badda boom movie here. You know why? Cos it's difficult to make a kickbutt movie. Technically, it's harder to try making a kickbutt movie than an artsy piece of work. So I want to try it. Do a Jet Li vs Ong Bak sort of thing. Never been done here in this country. Will be banned for extreme violence. Blood. Gore. That sort of thing. I also want to make a Superman short. Like a real one. Hannibal is still playing. It'll be playing for an hour. I have to attend an Honours info session later. I have to teach classes later. Pat, my supervisor, called me "that skinny boy" when she was talking to my classmates. Thank you. I'm in love. I'm always in love. Love is a many splendoured thing. Love lifts us up to where we belong. All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love. They say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that's true. Oh I know, let me tell you the story of Delirium. She's delirious. The End. Let me tell you the story of cyborgs. It's a cybernetic organism. The End. Let me tell you the story of TMY. He's bored. The End. Shu if you're reading this. I am sharpening my knife right now. Kill you later. Grace if you are reading this. I think he's k*ssable. Ha. Ha. Rabbit if you're reading this. I'm not Ed Bloom. I'm better. Ha. Ha. I wish I can travel around the world without a passport like my camera. Oh you know what. I tell you lame joke. Why do you think pigs can't fly. Because God made them that way lah. Okay not lame. Never mind. I wonder if by now any of my students have discovered my blog. They would think that I'm nuts. Yesterday, all my dreams seem so far away. Or something like that. Somewhere, beyond the sea. Somewhere waiting for me. My lover stands on golden sands and watches the ships that go sailing. Then Superman flies over the skies. May da Forceeeeeeee be wit you. Ding Ding ding ding ding. I miss Minesweeper Flags. I use to beat the crap out of Alter Ego TMY on a daily basis. It made me a happier person every day. Wa wee. I need more coffeee. Dingdingdingding. Hannibal is still playing.

The Fairy Tales: Happily Ever After

It was late evening, and it was drizzling. The sun was almost set in its place of rest, and the world was cast in a light blue.

The Prince of Thieves drove up the street leading to the suburbs slowly. Snow White was with him, sleeping in the car. It was a long drive, he has been driving for the past four hours just to get to this place.

"Honey, we're here," The Prince of Thieves woke Snow White gently after he parked the car under a tree just beside a row of houses. They both got out of the car, and stood under the tree.

"Is this it?" asked Snow White, looking at the tree.

"Yes, I'm quite sure it is. This is the only tree that has lived since the days of Fairyland," answered the Thief.

"How can you tell?"

"I can tell."

"Okay. So."

"We have to do this, Snow White. We've been running and hiding for milleniums now. We've lived through the rise and fall of a million civilizations. We've been happy. We've been together. And now, this tree is that is left of where we came from, and we can't let it die."

"The tree is not dead yet, dear."

"But it will be, if we leave it like this. It has survived so long without being cut down, its fortune is running out. We have to let it live, at all costs."

"I know."

"We have lived long enough, love."

"Yes, I suppose we have. Everything that lived during our time have already passed on to other worlds. Even the gods and fairies, creatures we thought would be eternal, have all passed on. It is only because you stole death away from us, that we have lived this long."

"Mm. We've seen more than any normal living being would've been allowed to see," agreed the Prince of Thieves. He closed his eyes and thought. About what, we do not know.

"Let us save this tree then," he finally said.

*

Snow White and the Prince of Thieves dug a small hole beside the tree with their hands. The sky was almost dark by the time they had dug. The leaves of the fairy tree slowed the tip-tapping drizzle into streams of water that fell on the two lovers. The Prince of Thieves wept as he pressed his fingers into the ground. Snow White remained silent as she removed the soil.

Both Snow White and the Prince of Thieves kneeled beside the little space that they have dug with their hands. By then the Prince of Thieves had removed his tie, and had put his coat around his beloved. They looked at each other and smiled, before reaching into their bodies with their hands, and removing their hearts.

It glowed red and gold in the night, and nothing more.

Snow White gently placed her shining heart into the ground, and the Prince of Thieves followed suit. Then the drizzling stopped, and the winds ceased to ruffle the leaves of the fairy tree.

As the two of them buried their hearts beside the tree, they remained silent, as did the rest of the world.

*

The Prince of Thieves and Snow White sat under the fairty tree. She was lying in his arms, and The Prince of Thieves gently stroked her coal-black hair.

"The roots of this tree will find our hearts," said, assuring himself and Snow White (for he has said this a thousand times) "and from it, a new world will grow, a world like the one we came from... Whether we have succeeded in restoring Fairyland, I don't think we'll ever know."

"It doesn't matter anymore. We've done what we did. We don't even have time to hope. We are dying,"

"Yes, we are. I love you."

"I know."

And they rested under the tree. Sometimes they were silent. Sometimes they spoke, reminiscing old adventures (for their adventures were many, and mostly dramatic).

Airplanes flew over the skies; trucks, taxis and cars passed that street; paddlers strolled past them, but the world paid no heed to them.

It was their last night in the land of the living. They faded as the night passed. In the lunar cycle, the sky was seventeen days away from lighting a full moon, yet the moon hung from the sky in its full glory that night.

*

As for when the birth of a new Fairyland will be, we will never know. Perhaps tomorrow, or next year, or a thousand years later.

Or perhaps the world would have ran its course by then.

We will never know.

As for the Prince and the Princess, I guess many would tell their tale and say that they did live a "happily ever after" life. Some would go so far to say that their tale lasted almost an eternity, yet seemed too short.

But yes. Happily ever after.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend

My Super Ex-Girlfriend

Directed by Ivan Reitman,
Written by Don Payne
Starring Uma Thurman, Luke Wilson, Anna Faris, Rainn Wilson, Eddie Izzard, Wanda Sykes

I tell you, My Super Ex-Girlfriend rocks.
From the opening sequence down to the closing credits. It's one big laugh. G-Girl should match up with Superman, the man of steel just might lose.
Storyline's questionable at times, but who cares, the movie throws all forms of logic out of the window, and I think G-Girl stands for "Gravity Girl", cos u're lifted off the seats of reality and you just go for the ride.

Almost like the bit where she takes Luke Wilson up into the air and er... makes love to him while meteoring down into the city.

I'm not suggesting anything, just trying to draw an example from the film.

Kick butt movie.

To anyone who thinks this movie is silly: Sometimes when a show is meant to be silly, people use it as an opportunity to say it's 'silly' cos it's a rare opportunity for them to possibly look intelligent and correct.

Well, this is a silly movie, but it rocks. So quit whining. And in this case, I'd rather be wrong about anything just to say that it rocks.

(Lol, I don't even defend Star Wars or Superman as firmly as this.)

B+

okay, if you're the smart kind who doesn't like rides and rollercoasters or anything of that sort, don't bother. But you're missing out.

Note that this isn't a review.

It's a rave.

Remind

Love is patient. Love is kind.

It does not want what belongs to others.

It does not brag. It is not proud.

It is not rude. It does not look out for its own interests.

It does not easily become angry. It does not keep track of other people's wrongs.

Love is not happy with evil. But it is full of joy when the truth is spoken.

It always protects. It always trusts. It always hopes. It never gives up.

Supers and Grads

Okay, so my friend Vincent LGS has most of the photos of my recent graduation. Photos with my beloved CFers, my closest class/coursemates, and some of my more poser-lific pics. I won't post much. Right now, I'll just show you a few pics from my brother's camera (he took a lot of good stuff, but me being me, I don't want to spam my blog with my own pics) and Meng Hong's cam.

K, let's start off with family. The people who pays for stuff, put up with my electricity day in day out, tahan my tantrums, and yadda yadda yadda, and mostly trusting me enough to let me do my own thing most of the time. So I hope this is some sort of you know, good returns.

Sister-in-law, brother, baby niece, dad, Superman, big niece, sister, mom. Notice that red is da theme in my immediate family.

Then there's my ever faithful church family. Grace, Josh, Kenneth, and Mince. No offense to the rest of the world, but apart from my family, this family was the first on my invitation list :)

MY NIECES! SO PRETTY!

When we think about the future of young ones, we always hope for the best. We pray that they grow up to be men and women of stature. As for my nieces, I hope they grow up to be powaaa girls. And really, I think Jeanne is showing signs. Check this out.

Okay, all my comm buddies like JX and AlterEgo TMY and Kerry and Ah Lien Jane will have to wait for the next camera, so for now let me show you a photo of my current honours COM4020 groupmate, Shi Ying. She's the smartest pig in the course, and she always insults how I look, every day.

Day 1 "Your shirt is ugly."
Day 2 "Your hair is messy"
Day 3 "You didn't shave. Yuck."
Day 4 "You look like crap today"

and so on and so forth.

Here she is. Being a frigging PIG even during graduation.

*

Kay, I hate looking nerdy.

So of all my vain pot shots, this is my favorite, cos at at least I look like I'm trying to not look nerdy.

*

Okay, okay. Congrats all who graduated. Love you all lots, and may da Forcee be with ya.

Because my ass is worth it!

Hi, I am TMY's alter ego.

I am, of course, a chick. With inordinately large boobs, puffy Angelina Jolie-esque lips and an all-round fantastic body. I'm 36-24-38, without the push-up bra (with it, I'm a 38 but shhh don't tell anyone)

I'm often emotionally charged, like sooo OTT emo if you know what I mean. The guys totally dig it. Oh, speaking of guys,

let me tell you about the sort of men I like. now the male species is a wonderful thing, but of course there are some men who totally turn me off. The hairy ones. The ones with man-boobs. And the ones who think it is acceptable to wear tapered jeans. I MEAN. Doesn't the world have enough bad, ugly human beings already?

Oh, darn! Wanna tell you more but I gotta run. My brain cell usage has hit its quota for today. Tee hee.

TTYL peeps!!

Hugz love and kisses
TMY

Change

Just a note to announce that the release of my short film Lov has been brought forward to the 3rd of October, two weeks earlier than the earlier announced date. This is due to my stupidity for forgetting that by the 17th of October, Monash examinations would have already begun.

It'll be screened at the Nasi Bungkus Cinema event, something which I will publicize sometime later in the week.

Bukit Tinggi + Random stuff.

So leaders and committee members of my church's youth group, 365 Student Ministry, went away for a day plus to Bukit Tinggi for a series of meetings. I'm wayyy too lazy to write much about it. I'm too lazy to write about the rocky trail that led to a rather peaceful and isolated hostel-like campsite. I'm too lazy to write about the sometimes-on-sometimes-off power generator over there. I'm also very lazy to write about Joshua's theatrics, jumping off the 8 feet high diving platform over and over again. I'm also lazy to type out the numerous good plans that our group talked about.

Excited about all of the above, but lazy to type it out here. So let me just show some photos. Some relevant, some not.

Erm. Whatever you call this lalang/wheat like thingy.

The place is surrounded by mountain ranges. I didn't take much landscape shot (in fact, none at all I think. Forgot lah) But nearby the camp site there was this huge tall dead tree sticking out of nowhere.

Between meetings, we had breaks where we ate, chit chat, or talk crap. Here I'm trying to explain to Joshua, Grace, and Abel the dynamics of time stopping. You know, they say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that's true.

And yes, the meeting were productive. Kenneth speaks.

Tartarus

(ll. 736-744) And there, all in their order, are the sources and ends of gloomy earth and misty Tartarus and the unfruitful sea and starry heaven, loathsome and dank, which even the gods abhor.

It is a great gulf, and if once a man were within the gates, he would not reach the floor until a whole year had reached its end, but cruel blast upon blast would carry him this way and that. And this marvel is awful even to the deathless gods.
