Out

Sorry for the lack of postings. For the past two weeks I've been trapped in a different realm, the realm of the Dreamweaver, Morpheus, Lord of the Dreaming, Dreamshaper, bla bla bla bla, Sandman.
And I've been meeting with this very unique family, who have all taught me something about my desires, despairs, delights, dreams, destiny, destruction, and of course death.
and mostly, I'm still marvelling at a work of literary genius, which has made me feel completely talentless, and pointless, and part of the result of such a feeling is the lack of postings on this blog.

Sometimes, like now, I just feel like deleting everything I've ever written or filmed in my entire life.

I could blame my brother for digging up that stash of something. Something that amazed me beyond my wildest imagination, but also disarmed me. Sigh.

If only I could talk to Death. She might make me appreciate life a little bit more. Or I could talk a bit more to Delirium, and she might make me happy.

If you donno what I'm talking about. It's okay. I'm gone for a while to contemplate things.

Post Krypton

So many are wondering, what's the deal with me now since Superman Returns is u know, out in the cinemas already?

I joked that I'll be rambling non-stop about Transformers, Spiderman 3, and many others.
But I saw this trailer today, and it captured my heart straightaway. It's meant to be.

Cool yea?

Other movies to watch out for: Click on title to view trailer. Quicktime required.

The Science of Sleep (Quirky out of this world romance - my favorite genre)
Children of Men (Alfonso Cuaron movie. About a world without pregnant women. Chaotic)
The Prestige (Christian Bale/Michael Caine/Hugh Jackman/Scarlet Johanssen. By the Batman Begins guy. About magicians doing real magic)

Cool heh. Check those out.

The Lake House

The Lake House
Directed by Alejandro Agresti
Written by David Auburn
Starring Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Christopher Plummer

There's no such thing as a perfect movie. Sometimes I love the designs (Big Fish), sometimes I love the CGI (Star Wars), sometimes I love the music (Superman Returns), the performances (Mystic River), the script (Pulp Fiction), the action (The Rock), one particular scene (Psycho), oddities (2046) or just a good idea (Howl's Moving Castle).

The Lake House probably gripped my attention with it's clever concept about a woman in the future communicating with a guy in the past, and how little oddities occur due to the time difference. Like if Alex Wyler decides to plant a tree in the year 2004, it'll just pop out of nowhere in the year 2006 because two years has passed. Stuff like that. Great basis for a story. I was ready to be absorbed into one heck of a romance movie. (I was half expecting Big Fish, sorry)

Then I saw Keanu Reeves. And more Keanu Reeves. And Keanu Reeves. And whatever potential the movie had just... vaporized. I don't mind slow movies, but I mind slow movies when the actors don't warm the screen up. Sandra Bullock didn't help much either. A bit better, but not much. The two of them bored me so much even when interesting plot twists occur I felt bored.

Keep thinking. We're out of tricks. We gotta keep the audience sleeping.

Sigh. I even feel bored writing this review. Ending now.

Become

Thing is, I sometimes don't listen through the CD when I get one. This is the last track from Goo Goo Doll's latest album, "Let Love In". Very lovely lyrics.

Become - Goo Goo Dolls

There's so much more about you that you never let them see
You turn away
But not to me
And I know how they tried to take you
Held you up and meant to break you down
But you can't be

For so long I tried to reach you
I know I'm almost there
I'm close enough for you to see

You've been hiding in the shadows
Have you forgotten how we used to dream
Let me remind you
The light doesn't blind you at all
It just helps you see
Can you see

Yeah you have become
Yeah you have become beautiful

And I can't be the stranger
That's been sleeping in your bed just
Turn around and come to me
I feel all the pain inside
And everything you been denied you feel
It's all you feel

You've been hiding in the shadows
Have you forgotten how we used to dream
Let me remind you
The light doesn't blind you at all
It helps you see
Can you see

Yeah you have become
Yeah you have become beautiful
Yeah you have become
Yeah you have become beautiful

Brush back your hair and look around you
Feeling like the truth has found you here
You're here with me
Let love become the mirror
With no fear where you're from
You have become beautiful

Wasting Away: Anniversary 2006b

I am writing this post to commemorate my favourite series of posts on my blog. The "wasting away" posts about my uni friends and the M-Lab.

So today, right now, I'm supposed to be typing my thesis. I'm in a room for the honours students, and right beside me is one hard working girl. Sarah Jane Long How Power. Her full name is Sarah Jane Ah Lien Long How Power Very Keng.

"don't la take my picture. Didn't put make-up today lah"

I must say that for 70% of the old Wasting Away posts, the inspiration for all the nonsense was her (her stupidity, mostly). I always start off by telling a tale about something stupid Sarah Jane says and follow up with what everyone else is doing.

So if there's a cast credit list to my series, Sarah Jane gets the first name. Other cast members are Fikri, Ben, Kerry, Shazzy, Szen, Mal, May Yee and many many many very special guest appearances by other friends.

So anyway, here goes.

Sarah said, "How do I know that I'm the cream of the crop", referring to her status as a scholarship reciepient and a brainiac of Monash Malaysia.

I said, "First of all, we're not crops. We're human beings. And you're not cream."

"I'm not? But I put cream on my face today!"

"You did?"

"Uh huh."

"You still look ugly."

"I do? Oh no!!! What do I do?"

*

Sarah is on the phone with her friend. Throughout most of the conversation I've been irritating her. So she said at some point to her friend, "Meng Yoe is here with me... Yes, Meng Yoe is here with me till late... Yeah he's so handsome summore... OH NO OH NO HE'S GONNA BLOG THAT!!! OH NO!!!"

Not a fabrication ok.

*

And that's Sarah Jane Cheong How Keng for you. Till next year.

*p/s It'd be nice if you're one of my classmates from that era (you know which era I'm talking about) to post a comment here. Just say hi or something, just so that we all know that you are alive.

The End of Juventus

Sigh.
Juventus FC, who had 4 players in the Italian's World Cup starting lineup, and 1 more coming in as a substitute, got stripped of their last two league titles and sent to the 2nd division.

Today is a day of sadness.

Milan got it bad too, but at least they still get to play in the top division. And while Juve stays down, I'll be rooting for Milan in the top flight.

Today is a day of sadness.

PIrates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Directed by Gore Verbinski
Written by Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio
Starring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Jack Davenport, Bill Nighy, Jonathan Pryce

So, Captain Jack is back to grace the screen after the first film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, made a surprisingly world beating blockbuster run three years back. Already dominating the box office, Pirates 2: Dead Man's Chest is a almost a lock to end up in the top three of the all time box office charts, with some already imagining it might even sink Titanic.

Well, to start off with, let me say that Pirates 2 is not a titanic flop in any way. If you've been afraid the last few months that this movie will end up being cast aside like The Matrix Reloaded, then rest easy, the film is good.

The film has improved in more ways than one. As enjoyable as The Curse of the Black Pearl was, there were many instances where due to no fault of the crew, the film visually fell short because of it's lack of size (in money and in space). The skeleton people looked as best they could, and the waters as dreadful as humanly possible (with a tinge of realization that it's a set, not a real... boat). Dead Man's Chest does away with all visual doubt. The Black Pearl in it's full glory carries a menace of its own, equalled only by The Flying Dutchman, ship of the villain Davy Jones, made out of oysters and seashells.

The tentacle man Davy Jones

So the story goes that Davy Jones wants Jack Sparrow to pay up his debt, which is (to no surprise) his soul. So the double crossing, triple crossing, quadruple crossing plot unfolds with Sparrow, Will Turner (Bloom), Elizabeth Swann, Ex-commodore Norrington, and other familiar foes. The plot twists in the film surprises well, and the film in it's own right carries substantial weight and food for thought for us viewers to chew on till the finale. It's no secret that Pirates 2 ends on a cliffhanger note, which I believe many will not enjoy. But that's life :P

However, the interesting storyline also is perhaps the greatest weakness of the film. The many prominent plot points are used as "excuses" to set up unnecessary chase, swordchopping, swashbuckling, and squimy twitching, scenes.

Jack Sparrow exceeds expectations, if only marginally, and caused my belly to swell, thanks to all the laughter. The sideline story of the aboriginies is easily the highlight of the film because of the level of creativity, which mind you, required minimal computer graphics. The human element, that's what they would call it. Speaking of computer graphics, as great as all the sets and costumes were, and the by and large innovating animation of the seashell baddies, the giant octopus, known as the Kraken, supposedly the biggest visual highlight of the film... turned out to be quite a bore. Won't say more, other than, well, it's a giant squid la.

Keira Knightly, Orlando Bloom gave par performances, riding on the film's other great qualities. Davy Jones amused and delighted me with his twitches and his nostalgia, but fails to inject fear into my blood. Most of the supporting cast were supporting enough, with none rising above the tide to steer the Black Pearl into greatness.

I love you. You love me. Scriptwriters don't let us marry. Darn them.

And oh yes, Hans Zimmer didn't fare much better than his apprentice from the first film, cos the music was one of the most disappointing aspects of the film. I've always admired/defended Zimmer scores to be purposeful, highly functional, and when necessary, glorious, even if dull notes needed playing, but Pirates was only existent at best, and a nuisance most of the time.

All in all, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is deserving of it's record breaking blockbuster status, and as startling as the film is visually, it fails to deliver a consistent pace and balance of adrenaline and thought. Hats of to Johnny Depp, Jack Sparrow, who has single handedly carried this film on his back, but the prominence of his contributing is leading me to wonder if his presence will burn out with the next film.

Then again, Chow Yun Fatt is in the next one.

Savvy?

And I've been saving this line for the last: Johnny Depp should win an Oscar for his role as Jack Sparrow. Should've won it the last time, and should win it this time.

Rating: B

Dua Kosong Kosong Tujuh (2007)

There are a number of big shot movies coming out in 2007, many of which have made some form of appearance on this blog. I will be careful to not make the mistake of discounting Pirates 3 as a contender, seeing that many predict that Pirates 2 (currently showing) has the potential of topping Titanic for the all time box office record.

And while there will be whines and cheers of optimism, enthusiasm, caution, or disdain for films such as Spiderman Tiga, Transformers, Fantastic Empat Dua, Indiana Jones Empat, and banyak lagi, here's one feature film that might be a little obscure at the moment in terms of publicity.

Stardust
Director: Matthew Vaughn (produced Lock Stock and A Barrell of Chewing Gum (okay that's not the exact title, but something like that. He also directed Layer Cake, and almost directed X-Men 3)
Screenplay: Jane Goldman, Matthew Vaughn
Based on the novel of the same title by Neil Gaiman.
Budget: $65million (Spiderman is reportedly costing studious around 300m, easily the most expensive film ever made. I think it's crazy because the film sorta grosses about 300m in the US anyway. And that's just production cost. Usually big films spend another 100m for so for marketing purposes. So, unless the producers are pretty darn sure that Spidey will break 500m, which to date, only Titanic has done so, I think it is crazy.)

Aha. Will tell you more about Stardust when in a few days time since I'm actually reading the book at the moment. I'm also reading Neverwhere, which I must say isn't as good as I hoped it would be. Once I'm done with these two books, do recommend me some other books to read.

Oh I forgot. For those of you with no interest in the trivia nonsense, here are the key performers in Stardust.

Charlie Cox (ok I don't know who he is)
Claire Danes
Robert De Niro
Michelle Pheiffer
Sienna Miller
Jason Flemyng
Rupert Everett
"I will pull your tongue, place it on a chopping board, point a nail right at the center, and hammer it down with all my might. Then I will leave you kicking and screaming. If you faint I will splash your face with water till you awake, then you can feel the pain again. The only way you can escape is if you tear off your tongue from the nail with your head or bite your tongue off completely. If you do such a thing I will salute your courage, then I will nail your ear lobes to the chopping board. If again, you tear your ears out to free yourself, I will just tear off your skin and let you wander in the desert until your body becomes a living rot. Then the flies will eat you while you stray aimlessly, and the vultures will nibble off your flesh while you sleep. You will walk until every bit of flesh and organ is stripped off your bones. You will live the rest of your days in pain. You cannot cry for you will have no tears. You cannot scream for you have no voice. You cannot hear for you have no ears. You can only hear your mind wail, like the banshee in the night. Then when are nothing but bones, the sand will consume you, and you will be forgotten, even by the dreamers."

"Okay. Exactly what do you want from me to... you know... so that I can avoid all that you just said?" asked Ah Gong.

"To shut up," answered the Master of Daydreams.

"Okiedokey. Zipedee."

Stick Boy and Match Girl in Love - by Tim Burton

Here's a little tale by Tim Burton:

Stick Boy liked Match Girl,
He liked her a lot.
He liked her cute figure,
he thought she was hot.

But could a flame ever burn
for a match and a stick?
It did quite literally;
he burned up quick.

*

The above is my favorite story from the book.

* From "The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories", Tim Burton

The Other Trilogy? - Piracy Prevails

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest opened stupendously powerfully. It exceeded Star Wars opening day record of 50 million with its own 55 million take.

Then as if it was not enough, it went on to out-swing Spiderman's three day weekend record to take it's week's total to 132m, which ranks somewhere in the top three for the opening week box office.

For all the talk of last year's box office slump, we've seen two financially record breaking movies this year already, X-Men 3 (biggest ever memorial day opening), and now Pirates.

Sadly, Superman got beat pretty heavily. Not that it's not making money, just not enough.

With no more Star Wars (and possibly X-Men) movies coming out, it's left to Spiderman 3 next year to break the record, otherwise it is most likely that Pirates 2 will hang on to this record for some years (Spidey 1 hung on to its weekend record for about 5+ years and Star Wars held the opening day record for just over a year)

Also, with Pirates not looking to be a flop with its sequels (like the Matrix trilogy), this could very well be the latest addition to the pantheon of trilogies/sixologies (ala Star Wars, Lord of the Rings)

K nerd talk/trivia over.

As big as the opening has been, I must say that I'm not as pumped up to watch it. Those who know me well enough know that one of the highest/first gauge of whether I enjoy the film or not is whether the film has outstanding music or not. Pirates 1 bombed in that aspect, so forgive my slight prejudice. But Hans Zimmer composed for this one, but reviews have not been kind to his composition, so I don't know.

And while many have expressed their disagreement to my A rating for Superman Returns, I must maintain that it was a film very well done, and yes, it has a great soundtrack (Thanks Eddie and Lynette for getting me the soundtrack. It's a pleasant surprise).

And while France can celebrate the Cantona Kung Fu Kick, the Zidane Headbutt, and other forms of stylish French martial arts, Italy won the world cup without any heroes. And mind you, if Juventus/Milan/Fiorentina/Lazio all finds itself in the 2nd division of Italian football (thanks to some scandal), FRANCE LOST TO A SQUAD LOADED WITH 12 SECOND DIVISION PLAYERS with no training in martial arts.

World Cup Final

I told a friend that just like how I do not like to wave a Malaysian flag around everywhere I go to prove that I'm Malaysian, I do not need to be Italian to be an Italian football fan.

I also said that my footballing nationality is Italian. Everything else, I'm Malaysian through and through.

So for Tonight, Italy will prevail!

This Post is ALL about Grace Eu

Ok so it is like this. Grace stumbled upon my blog recently and read through almost everything I've ever written and made a comment that I've blogged about Superman, Tinkerbell, Brokeback Mountaineers, Commie girls (and the rare guy), so on and so forth, and that I only blogged about her and the rest of the "family" once, back in February 2006.

So anyway, I half promised her that I will write 500 words just about her today. So I am dedicating this entire blog post to my favorite petsister in the whole wide world (she is the only petsister I have in the whole wide world, so go figure). Here goes.

This is Grace Eu. Try to ignore the other people in the pic. It'll take a book to explain things.

They say a picture paints a thousand words. So see the picture carefull and thousands of words will spill out already. So that must mean I've fulfilled my quota of 500 words. It's probably worth 15000 words now. So ta.

*

When I started attending the church I'm currently attending like eight years ago or so. I was 14 or 15 I think. Small boy that time. Still small boy now but that's not the point. There were a few people who really treated me very well. So Grace was one of them. Fetch me every week to church and all that. So if you happen to be a reader here who detests my sometimes slightly conservative Christian views (not that I set out to do that) or if you are my classmate who completely dislike/disagree with my religion of sorts, part of the blame is Grace cos when I was young, she made it a point to make sure I attend church regularly instead of waste my Sunday mornings watching cartoons and woo-ing girls (Not that I don't do it in church. Well, I don't. People woo me. Well, they don't either, but that's not the point.)

So there was this once when we were both still quite young and when we had too much free time on our hands, we discussed donkeys. Yes, some of our conversations were rather intellectual. She told me, in her description of the donkey, that donkeys are brown. I corrected her, telling her that donkeys are grey, using Eeyore as an example. I honestly felt that her general animal knowledge was way below par for thinking that donkeys had brown hair. But guess what, in our conversations today, she claims that I was the one who said that donkeys are brown. You know how silly that sounds? Anyway, we'll never know the truth about who was the real idiot, so let's leave it at that.

Apart from that. I guess all I can say is that she pisses me off more often than she realizes (of course she'll tell you otherwise) and she loves to eat, which is a good thing since I love to eat as well. The "church family", which includes both of us and Joshua and Min Ser and Kenneth (we call ourselves orphans. Don't ask) remains as a family of 5 good friends mostly because she takes the initiative to make sure we all do well.

Oh my. I've exceeded the word count. Let me say this. I know in my 500+ words or so it seems like I've insulted Grace more than compliment her. But as most of you know, I don't insult everyone. And when I do, it's a sign of great affection. But in case it doesn't quite work for Grace, okay, fine.

Grace, you are a nice girl.

Except for that time when you simply scold me for (fill in the blank)
and that time when you did (fill in the blank)
and when you called me just to (fill in the blank)
and when you (fill in the blank)

and donkeys are grey.

Ticklish Things

Ah Lien typed her assignment furiously. She wasn’t approaching her deadline, but when she’s got an idea, she’s gotta type it out as fast as she can. So she channeled all her energy into processing whatever was on her brain unto the keyboard.

Then a buzz distracted her. Something flew right past her. She paused her academic mode and looked at her stack of notes. She saw that brown creepy crawling thing creepily trickle over her notes. Its feelers prodded the ink on the paper, then the pen nearby. Its six legs wriggled through whatever was on its way. Then it saw Ah Lien.

The cockroach freaked out and flew right into her face and into her nose. It couldn’t exactly fit her nose so the cockroach wriggled very nastily through her brain. Ah Lien screamed and jumped from her seat and tried digging the cockroach out of her nose.

In truth, all the jumping and digging only eased the cockroach’s entry into Ah Lien’s body. Nose poo came out. Tears poured out. Then the cockroach finally exploded through the insides of her nose and slid down Ah Lien’s throat. It was still alive. It managed to grab the edge of the end of her throat before falling into the cauldron of acid in the stomach.

So the cockroach tickled Ah Lien’s stomach very hard. She continued to jump psychotically for a while. Then the cockroach dropped into the acid and died.

*

Then Ah Lien swore she could hear war drums resonating from all over the place. She looked down at her feet and saw that millions of six legged, slimy brown cockroaches where tickling through her feet and feeling her skin. She stood there, not knowing what to do. She slowly opened her mouth in fear, only to realize that cockroaches, stained with fresh blood, came crawling out through her mouth and her nose, like champions of war. Soon her ears bled too, and her eyes ruptured.

Killer cockroaches.

The Rat Empire

Hi. This is a short story that not everyone will want to read. If you are my sister (yes, you live in the same house as me), don't read it. Don't ask why.

*

The Rat Empire

There was once a little man who discovered that his little toe was bitten off by a frog. The frog couldn’t exactly swallow the toe so he lugged it around and eventually spat the toe unto the sidewalk. Then came a rat, who carried it back to her hole in the wall and nibbled away at the toe. The toe lasted the rat and her family an entire week.

As for the little man, he hunted the frog, and caught it when the frog tried biting off his other little toe. So the little man held the frog and bit off his head. He spat the frog’s head unto the sidewalk, where the rat conveniently picked it up again and fed her family for another seven days.

Then the rat figured that instead of waiting for another meal to drop by, she decided to organize all the rats in her district to hunt the little man, and eat him up. For the entire district, the little man would most likely last them about three to four weeks.

One clever rat, a friend of the rat who ate the toe and the frog’s head, suggested that they capture the little man instead of killing him. So, one night, while the little man was sleeping on his bed, thousands of little rats crawled into his room and carried him away into a manhole under the largest drain in all of Kuala Lumpur.

The little man woke up to discover that his fingers and his toes were all eaten up. His tongue was bitten off, and all the tendons were severed. He could not move. And all he could see was little rats biting off different bits of him everyday. Every evening, the rats would shove raw frog meat into the little man’s mouth and force it into his throat, then the rats would pee into his mouth, just to keep him alive.

The little man lasted three months, and fed all the rats in the district. When the little man died, all the rats mourned, for they have come to appreciate the life of the little man who has unwillingly kept all the rats alive. They kept silent. They held their squeaks to themselves. They fasted for two whole days in memory of the little man.

Then they plotted the capture of all living people in the city.

Men, women, and children were to be made into food farms for the rats.

And so, that was the rise of the rats.

Italy STOMPS into World Cup Final. Germ-what?

What a feeling! Italy stuns Germany in overtime with two goals in the last minute!

The two scorers: Alessandro Del Piero and Fabio Grosso

Comments:
1) The commentator once again said things like "I've been repeating myself many times, but Cannavaro is there again." Cheers to Italy's best defender, who made Klose and Podolski look like B-league strikers. (Klose's stats: 0 shots on goal/0 shots attempted. Was he playing defense? Interesting tactic.)

2) Italy has defended well without Alessandro Nesta, and I don't care if he recovers on time or not. Send Barzagli (3rd choice) if you want.

3) Fabio Grosso's performance in the last few matches has earned my respect as the heir to Paolo Maldini.

4) Who dares say that Gigi Buffon is not the world's best goalie now?

5) Ballack, who? It's Gattuso!

6) Alessandro Del Piero is my all time favorite player since God knows when. My only sadness in the years past was that he never made it on the world stage. Now that's changed. He's my ultimate football hero.

7) Germany should be happy. So much for all the cocky talk and home ground "12th man" advantage. Kudos to a match well fought, but sorry, Klinsy, your boys just ain't skilled enough. Period.

*

My brother SMSed after the match. He's a France supporter. I'll never forget the Euro 2000 final where Italy lost to France. He said, "Nice. Del Piero is hero. Hmm... But italy will lose to France in the final. ha. Ha. Ha."

No.1 - France's old men need to beat Portugal's divers first.

No.2 -

Bring it on.

New Short Film

At long last, I made a short film.

It's the shortest ever I've made. It's only 51 seconds long, but mind you, it's one of themost meticulous jobs I've done, and still it turned out a bit fuzzy.

But hey, it's my first time "filming" something purely with my digital still camera.

Walls, Toilets, Wolves, and more Walls.

Just a short excerpt from a short story I've been working on called Walls, Toilets, Wolves, and More Walls Thought I might as well entertain you with it since I have nothing else to blog about.

*

Walls, Toilets, Wolves, and more Walls

*

Ah Gong woke up under the shower. And there he met Faye, who arrived from the toilet bowls’ pipeline.

Ah Gong was sitting under the shower, staring up at the dry showerhead. He wondered how he had arrived in the toilet. It wasn’t any toilet that he recognized from anywhere. It had light blue tiles, a shower, a sink, and a toilet bowl.

Then Faye spurted out from the toilet bowl. At that moment, it didn’t occur to both Ah Gong and Faye that any toilet bowl would not fit an adult human body. But Faye’s head pumped out of the well of water, desperately gasping for breath. She swallowed in fresh air for a moment, then stretched out her arms to crawl out of the toilet bowl.

Ah Gong just stared at Faye and thought that it was rather odd that someone would come through the toilet bowl. He did not react in any frenzied way, but just sat there and stared.

“Can you give me a hand? Excuse me? I’m trying to get out here,” asked Faye, breathlessly.

Ah Gong did not respond.

“Hey. Dude. Guy. Give me a hand. Hello?” asked Faye again, a little louder this time. Ah Gong finally snapped out of his daze, got to his feet, grabbed her arms, and hoisted her from the toilet bowl. Faye seemed stuck, but with a little nudge (Ah Gong put one foot on the toilet bowl for leverage) and a soft pop, Faye came out of the toilet bowl like a cork out of a bottle. A stream of clear water rose in the toilet bowl and overflowed unto the toilet floor.

“Are you alright?” asked Ah Gong, as he held Faye in his arms. She wasn’t particularly attractive, but her eyes looked determined in an undetermined way. Ah Gong didn’t fall in love with her there and then; neither did Faye fall in love with her newfound toilet hero.

Then the shower came on. It was the first time he ever had a shower with anyone in his life, thought Ah Gong. Faye thought the same. They did not move. They just let the water drip and flow downwards. They hardly spoke for the next two minutes. Faye did ask, “Where did you come from?”

“I’m not sure, I was out there. Hit a wall. And… I don’t know. I know you came through the toilet bowl though,” answered Ah Gong. Faye laughed, then looked away. The shower wasn’t very loud. They could hear each other’s snickering.

“Actually, I don’t know how I ended up here as well. I tried dying, I think,” explained Faye.

“You don’t look too dead to me.”

Maybe they fell in love then. Maybe they didn’t. Just before they could entertain the thought or make the necessary calculations as to whether they were falling in love or not, the toilet door opened, and an old man in a white gown greeted them.

“Welcome to dream. You are clean now, and you may enter our world.”

Faye and Ah Gong looked at each other and looked at the old man, “Dream? We’re in a dream?”

The old man shook his head slowly, “No, you’re not in a dream. You’re in dream,”

“Where dreams are?”

“Where dreams are made, yes.”

“And we had to get here through a toilet?”

“Many things, especially oddities, will be made clear to you as time passes. For now, let’s just say that from a logical perspective, the best way to shake off any worldly dust off you would be to take a good shower, and the only logical place to get a shower is in a toilet, alright?”

“This doesn’t look like dream. It’s a toilet,” remarked Faye.

The old man gave Faye a gentle look with his pink eyes and prompted them, “Do step out.”
