The Other Trilogy? - Piracy Prevails

Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest opened stupendously powerfully. It exceeded Star Wars opening day record of 50 million with its own 55 million take.

Then as if it was not enough, it went on to out-swing Spiderman's three day weekend record to take it's week's total to 132m, which ranks somewhere in the top three for the opening week box office.

For all the talk of last year's box office slump, we've seen two financially record breaking movies this year already, X-Men 3 (biggest ever memorial day opening), and now Pirates.

Sadly, Superman got beat pretty heavily. Not that it's not making money, just not enough.

With no more Star Wars (and possibly X-Men) movies coming out, it's left to Spiderman 3 next year to break the record, otherwise it is most likely that Pirates 2 will hang on to this record for some years (Spidey 1 hung on to its weekend record for about 5+ years and Star Wars held the opening day record for just over a year)

Also, with Pirates not looking to be a flop with its sequels (like the Matrix trilogy), this could very well be the latest addition to the pantheon of trilogies/sixologies (ala Star Wars, Lord of the Rings)

K nerd talk/trivia over.

As big as the opening has been, I must say that I'm not as pumped up to watch it. Those who know me well enough know that one of the highest/first gauge of whether I enjoy the film or not is whether the film has outstanding music or not. Pirates 1 bombed in that aspect, so forgive my slight prejudice. But Hans Zimmer composed for this one, but reviews have not been kind to his composition, so I don't know.

And while many have expressed their disagreement to my A rating for Superman Returns, I must maintain that it was a film very well done, and yes, it has a great soundtrack (Thanks Eddie and Lynette for getting me the soundtrack. It's a pleasant surprise).

And while France can celebrate the Cantona Kung Fu Kick, the Zidane Headbutt, and other forms of stylish French martial arts, Italy won the world cup without any heroes. And mind you, if Juventus/Milan/Fiorentina/Lazio all finds itself in the 2nd division of Italian football (thanks to some scandal), FRANCE LOST TO A SQUAD LOADED WITH 12 SECOND DIVISION PLAYERS with no training in martial arts.

word on the street now is that United are looking for "Snarls" Gattuso and Andrea Pirlo.

If in the event that AC Milan get relegated to Serie B or C, then chances are, we'll see a couple of Azurris go Red. Literally. :)

Correction, if the teams mentioned are relegated, France lost to a team of players who play outside their home country =).

hmm...i find it unlikely that Gattuso and Pirlo will go to United. Would understanding/speaking English be a concern? That's what Lippi used to lambast the reporter who asked him if he's gonna coach England or an England team issit? Was it ManU? I forgot. Lol.

Blek. I'd rather them all play in Serie B or C than United of all places. Puke.

TMY - the thing about the martial arts is seriously funny.

Just hope the scandal-thingy blows over. No ones really gonna care now that they've won no? Even if they are relegated - who cares? They'll be reinstated eventually.
