Monash Comms Film Fest 2005

We had our very first Monash Comms Film Fest in our humble Journalism Lab today, screening 1 trailer, 3 feature short films, and a surprise lecturer tribute documentary. It was an enjoyable evening, all in all, with the laughters, the oh-my-goodness's. We had roughly 40 or so people showing up, with even more trickling in towards the end when students who were in the middle of classes sneaked in for a while. As always, let the photographs do more talking. Thanks to Szen for taking the pictures.

The crowd waiting for the next show to be blown on full screen. The film-fest kicked off with the trailer for TaKau 2, that is due out in the near future. It was followed by the screening of Goldfish, Captivation and Police Story, Man, and finally the Dr.Yeoh farewell video.

Goldfish on the big screen.

The audience.

Some of our lecturers showed up. Dr.Yeoh, Pat and even our head of Arts Dr.Han showed up. In this pic there's two of our lecturers Andrew and Sharon (two in the middle).

Me pretending to look intelligent and observant while manning the PC and the tapes for screening.

Dr.Yeoh giving the rest of the students a bit of a lecture, as lecturers are always prone to do, after seeing his farewell video in which a lot of funny stuff surfaced. It was good fun.

That's me chatting with Aaron after the show. Aaron is the lead actor in my violence filled trilogy TaKau; on the right is my Captivation superstar Sze Mun, trying quite hard to pretend we're good friends.

Dr.Yeoh with Fikri and Shazana, who is in the process of producing two documentaries (that's out next screening). After the event, it was cam whoring for a whole bunch of us.

All in all, it was a fun day, as I said earlier. We're nowhere near Sundance, Cannes or Toronto. In fact, we're not even near the standard of Malaysian Film Fests, but hey, always a first time. Can't wait to see what the rest of the dudes come up with next.

Directors: Eddie G (Police Story,Man) TMY (Captivation) and Fikri (Goldfish)

And let me make it very clear that it wasn't my show that had the line "They say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that's true."

It's called a practice in intertextuality.

Ding.

Some people think that because of that line, my film was yours, and that yours is mine.

I guess we really are one :>
