Malaysian Basketball All-Star 2005: Rawang
While the big boys of the NBA dunked it out and shot it out over the All-Star weekend in Denver, the Malaysian One on One All-Star game took place in Rawang. Granted, there's no Shaquille O'Neal, Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, or Allen Iverson on the playing field, but Malaysia's very own Peter Kong and TMY!!!
Not that there weren't any fans...
Like any pre-game atmosphere, people grab bites (food) before matches. While they don't serve hot-dogs or burgers as regularly as western countries, some of the fans ate at the nearby hawker stall. On the left is one enthusiastic fan who refrained herself from drinking alcohol before the game in case she got drunk and turned into a menacingly dangerous hooligan. The girl on the right is like any other fan, discussing basketball tactics. the only difference is she's a girl, and she wasn't discussing basketball tactics... she was preaching it.
Anyway, the match was hosted in Michael Thai's house... Rawang.
Before the highlight competition, the All-Star shooting competition took place...
It was a matchup between 3 dudes who competed by shooting the basketball from various angle's and distances, something like the 3-point shootout that involved Quentin Richardson and Peja Stojakovic.
The shootaround here involved Michael Thai, Steven Thai and Peter Kong... and obviously from the picture you can tell that Peter doesn't look too happy from where he's standing because Michael just hit the winning shot.
While that was fun, the real game begins!!!
TMY and Peter started their one on one match and much to the delight of the fans, they both displayed a flurry of animated dunks, the 360 tomahawk jam, the self passing alley hoop jam, bla bla bla... After the first half of 5 minutes, the score was tied at 7 - 7.
The second half was slower, with both superstars playing it safe. There was only 35 seconds left and the score was 12 - 11 in TMY's favor, when Peter suddenly played as though he was Kobe Bryant and rose above the tall TMY (shoving him to the ground in the process... and no one called for a foul) for a facial!!!.
Peter Kong with his magnificent jam... to equalize the game...
Everyone was by then expecting an OT game from both ultra superstars when TMY made a powerful leap over Peter to cling on to the rim and dunked the ball with Peter on his knees praying that TMY would miss the dunk
Much to everyone's delight, TMY won the Rawang All-Star competition!!!
